What “Fantasy Football (is Prediction Game in English)” means here

On GoKoppa-style games, Fantasy Football (is Prediction Game in English) means you predict match results. You do not pick players. You score points from your picks, like the final score or the winner.

A good prediction game scoring system does three things:

  • Feels fair
  • Rewards skill
  • Stays fun for new players

Below are three popular models: simple, advanced, and hybrid.

Model 1: Simple scoring (easy and fast)

Simple scoring uses only a few rules. Most groups understand it in seconds.

Common simple rules

  • Correct winner (or draw): +1 to +3 points
  • Correct exact score: +3 to +5 points
  • Wrong pick: 0 points

Example (simple)

You predict 2–1.

  • Match ends 2–1 → you get exact score points
  • Match ends 2–0 → you may get winner points only
  • Match ends 1–2 → you get 0

Why it works

  • It is quick to explain.
  • It fits big groups.
  • It keeps the table tight.

Watch-outs

  • Luck can matter a lot.
  • Skilled players may not pull away.

Model 2: Advanced scoring (more skill, more rules)

Advanced scoring adds detail. It rewards close calls. It can also reduce “random” wins.

  • Result (win/draw/loss): +2
  • Exact score: +6
  • Correct goal difference: +4 (example: you picked 2-goal win, it was 3-goal win? No. But 2–0 vs 3–1 both have +2 goal difference.)
  • Correct home or away goals: +1 each
  • Bonus for upset picks: +1 to +3

Example (advanced)

You predict 1–0.

  • Match ends 2–0
    • Result correct (home win)
    • Away goals correct (0)
    • Goal difference wrong (1 vs 2)
    • You still earn some points

Why it works

  • It rewards “nearly right” picks.
  • It spreads the table based on skill.
  • It keeps strong players engaged.

Watch-outs

  • It needs clear rules.
  • It can confuse new players at first.

Model 3: Hybrid scoring (best for most friend groups)

Hybrid scoring mixes simple rules with one or two advanced parts. It stays easy, but adds depth.

Use this points system:

  • Correct result (win/draw/loss): +2
  • Correct exact score: +5
  • Correct goal difference (but not exact): +3
  • Wrong result: 0

Why this hybrid works

  • New players can still win weeks.
  • Skilled players win over a season.
  • You avoid long rule lists.

Game mechanics that keep it fun

Your game mechanics matter as much as points. Use these to keep players active.

Add weekly moments

  • Match of the Week: double points for one match
  • Safe pick: once per round, protect one pick from losing points
  • Streak bonus: +1 for 3 correct results in a row

Handle ties

  • Most exact scores in the season
  • Best last round score
  • Head-to-head week (one extra set of matches)

Keep it fair

  • Lock picks at kick-off time
  • Use the same rules for all matches
  • Show a clear scoring table in the group chat

How to choose the right scoring model

Pick based on your group.

  • Choose Simple if your group is new, casual, or very large.
  • Choose Advanced if your group loves detail and long seasons.
  • Choose Hybrid if you want the safest all-round choice.

A final tip: write your rules in 6–10 lines. Then test them for one round. If people smile and keep picking, you got it right.
